Can Wasps win premiership glory?

This morning, (21/10/2020) Wasps Rugby have confirmed that they are able to play in the final despite another 4, totalling 11, of their players testing positive for coronavirus.

With only 3 days to go, Wasps were given very little time to prepare having to halt training due to a breakout of Covid-19 in their team.

Premiership Rugby works in a complicated way in comparison to most sports. Those who finish in the top 4 then play each other in semi-final games, first place playing fourth and second playing third, meaning the team that finished fourth in the league, still have a chance at being victors.

Many had thought that Bristol Bears, who only made the top 4 due to an outbreak in coronavirus in the Sale Sharks squad, were nearly given another advantage caused by coronavirus. They were likely to have been been placed second to face Exeter Chiefs in the final, if Wasps were forced to withdraw from the competition by the Rugby Football Union and Public Health England Guidelines. Bristol were pushed all over the park by Wasps in their 47-24 semi-final match, but since, Bristol put out a mighty performance against Toulon in the European Champions cup final to win.

Daniel Frost, a Wasps fan, said he is "over the moon to reach the final. I think we can give it a good go. We (Wasps) have standout players like (Joe) Launchbury who can cause a few problems around the breakdown, and (Dan) Robson who can take charge of the game, without mentioning the young upcoming players like Jacob Umaga and Jack Willis" who was recently named Premiership Player of the Season. However, the Wasps fan was having doubts and said "I think Exeter are going to win whoever they play."

Exeter Chiefs have been in formidable form all season, having 630 points for, with a points total of 71. Although Wasps only fall slightly behind, with Exeter's performances in the European Champions Cup, most notably against their 31-27 victory over Racing 92 to win the European Champions title.

However on recent Instagram polls, many rugby fans are wanting Wasps Rugby to beat Exeter for premiership glory. Do they really think they can do it or are they backing the underdogs?

With two young aspiring fly-halfs looking to impress Eddie Jones for his England squad selection, who will win in the battle of the 10 jersey, Jacob Umaga or Joe Simmonds?

Find out at 18:00 on Saturday the 24th of October on BT Sports.
