Harlequins have teamed up with Adidas x Parley Ocean Plastics to lead by example in creating an alternate kit from recycled ocean plastic.
At 09:00 today, Harlequins Rugby released their alternate kit for purchase from their own site as well as the biggest UK rugby online store, Lovells. However what separates this kit from any other team is that they have teamed up with Parley Ocean Plastics to produce a kit which is made from recycled plastics.
With 8 million metric tonnes of plastics being dumped in the oceans annually, it is time for the sports industry, who are a huge contributor in producing plastic clothing, to change how they produce their products.
Producing kits from recycled material is a huge step in the commitment to sustainability and Harlequins especially, in leading the way and encouraging other teams to follow.
Adidas who have produced the Harlequins' shirts for a number of seasons, have worked with Parley Oceans Plastic since 2015, "to use 100% recycled polyester our products by 2024". By beginning to implement the production of recycled shirts, particularly in sport, sustainability and reduction of plastics being dumped in our oceans will be successfully managed and brought to more manufacturers attention in it's importance.
